Malden YMCA
Malden, MA

The new home of Malden YMCA uses the “Head Building” of the Malden Armory building. The actual armory was partially demolished to house new locker rooms at lower level, a fitness center and space for expansion on upper level and a new state of the art gymnasium with suspended running track on the new entrance level. The running track and corporate offices are suspended from long span roof trusses. A new two-story addition contains a therapy pool at lower level and additional offices on the second floor. Adjoining is a new full scale swimming pool.

The structure is framed in structural steel with steel braces providing lateral stability. The building is founded on a shallow foundation on structural fill. The existing head house foundation required extensive underpinning.
